With the school year drawing to a close, now’s the perfect time for Haringey families to get organised for September. If your child relies on SEND School Travel Assistance, here’s everything you need to know before the 2026/27 application window closes.

Why Now Is the Time to Apply

As the current school year winds down, Haringey Council is reminding families to apply for SEND School Travel Assistance for 2026/27. The deadline is Friday, 10 July 2026. Applications submitted after that date will still be looked at, but the council can’t guarantee transport will be arranged in time for the start of the new school year, so getting your application in early gives your child the best chance of a smooth start to September.

Who Needs to Reapply This Year

Already receiving travel assistance doesn’t mean you’re automatically covered for next year. Haringey asks families to submit a fresh application if any of the following apply:

  • There’s been a change in your child’s needs
  • Your child has changed home address
  • Your child is changing schools
  • Your child is moving from nursery to primary, or primary to secondary
  • Your child is 16 or over and either moving on to a new school or college, or staying at their current school

That last point catches some families out – turning 16 means reapplying every year, even if nothing else has changed.

A Change Worth Knowing About: Email Updates

From this year, Haringey will send information about travel arrangements by email instead of post. The council says the change will cut down on paper use, get information to families faster, make translation and online formats easier to access, and improve security and reliability. If you’d rather keep receiving this by post, you’ll need to contact the Transport team by 26 July 2026 to let them know.

How to Apply

Applications go through the council’s eligibility and application process page. If you’d prefer to apply using a form sent by email rather than online, call the Transport team on 020 8489 5629 to request one.

Moved Out of Haringey? Here’s What to Do

If your family has moved out of the London Borough of Haringey, you’ll need to apply through your new local authority instead, since travel assistance is arranged by the council where you currently live.

For any questions, Haringey’s SEND School Travel Assistance team can be reached by email at school.transport@haringey.gov.uk or by phone on 020 8489 5629.

Supporting Families Across London

Getting a child to school safely and on time is one less thing parents and carers should have to worry about, especially while waiting to hear back from the council. Whether you’re mid-application or already have a decision in hand, having reliable transport in place matters.
